Description
A country house of enormous character which has been re-imagined and renovated with flair, attention to detail, and a great sense of style, whilst also maintaining its wonderful historic charm. Early records indicate that Nore pre-dates 1590 and it is Grade II listed.
The long history of Nore records notable owners and their visitors over the years which include film stars, explorers, and adventurers. Dirk Bogarde bought the property in 1962 having
been told about the ‘staggering view’, and enjoyed life in The Surrey Hills until 1971. Before this, in 1910, Captain Robert Falcon Scott is alleged to have spent his final night in England at Nore, before embarking on his fatal mission to the Antarctic, and The South Pole.
The four principal living rooms flow from a central hall with its most impressive staircase. Each room has an open fireplace and a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and there is a wood burning stove lying between the bright family room which is open, forming an L with the 37’ kitchen/breakfast room.
The dining room is a unique and very special space, with a high ceiling, open fire, a covered well, and it is particularly well suited for both formal and informal entertaining. A good sized boot room, a utility/laundry, and two cloakrooms complete the ground floor accommodation.
Upstairs the master bedroom suite has a large and luxuriously fitted bathroom, a dressing room, an additional walk-in wardrobe, and a double aspect taking full advantage of the southerly views from the house. There are then two further guest bedroom suites, one with similarly excellent views, and four further bedrooms and two further bathrooms, one of which
is ensuite. The family bathroom has a clever laundry shoot directly to the utility room below.
