Description
Spirits rise as one proceeds through the gated entrance and along the sweeping part-cobbled drive, catching sight of North Dean House. Set in parkland and bordered by fields and a spinney to the east, this property was originally built as a farm house and today represents a spacious family home retaining a wealth of original features such as exposed beams and rafters; Dutch tiled fireplaces, deep casement windows and sash windows.

The principal reception room feels almost baronial in style. It is largely oak-panelled and overlooked by the minstrels’ gallery above. The sitting room with a carved oak door frame and open fire place leads to the triple aspect, 48 ft drawing room which features a huge bay window overlooking the gardens to the front. This is matched by the ballroom on the lower ground floor which is the same size and has a fabulous herringbone parquet floor. The oldest part of the house comprises of the breakfast room and dual aspect dining room. Rising to the first floor, there are five-six bedrooms including the principal suite. The bedroom has a large bay window with sash windows almost to the floor, filling the
room with morning light. Adjacent to this lies the dressing room and bathroom. The remaining four bedrooms are served by the two family bathrooms.

Situation
Steeped in history, North Dean House was owned by Benjamin Seebohm Rowntree in the 1930s. He and his father, Joseph Rowntree, are remembered through the philanthropic trusts they established including the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. Today, North Dean is a peaceful hamlet in a conservation area not far from Great Missenden (5.9 milesdistant) and Princes Risborough (5.4 miles distant) which provide a comprehensive range of shops and restaurants.
The nearby villages of Bryant’s Bottom, Speen and Great Hampden offer a selection of pubs and there are numerous public footpaths in the area.
